Muere el Cura Brochero

26 de Enero de 1914

Fallece a los 73 años el cura gaucho José Gabriel Brochero, en Villa del Tránsito (que más tarde sería Villa Cura Brochero), quien en su acción evangelizadora y social recorría en su mula los caminos serranos haciendo obra de bien como levantar escuelas.

En 1872 construyó 3 iglesias, entre ellas la iglesia de San Vicente al norte de la provincia, luego realizó el trazado de caminos, levantó varios terraplenes y hasta hizo colocar rieles para un tranvía rural, que comunicó poblaciones humildes.

Contrajo lepra, contagiado de por estar expuesto a enfermos que según cuentan el compartía el día a día, tomaba mate incluso, sin ningún tipo de reparo, a lo cual después de unos años quedaría ciego y sordo.
Nació en Santa Rosa, en la provincia de Córdoba, el 17 de marzo de 1840.
